A listing of the horses owned by Abbas Pasha and by Ali Pasha Sherif of Egypt, ancestors of many of today's Arabians.
The anonymous author compiled this information to enable breeders "to check their Arabians back to the first true foundation stock of Egypt." According to the author, "Rarely can one trace a pedigree where these Arabians do not appear."
The book states that "Abbas Pacha I... eventually owned three large stables of 600 horses." Ali Pacha Cherif purchased some of Abbas Pacha's horses, in addition to horses he had already owned, and he eventually owned "one of the largest stables in the world."
More than 300 horses are listed in this book. Listed are (if known), the horse's name, color, strain, date of birth, sire and dam, place of origin or importation, name of the breeder and other information.
The book states that the listings are in "no particular order." However, it appears that most (but not all) were sorted by the the first letter of the horse's name, if the horse was identified by a name. For example, most of the names starting with A are listed together, then names starting with B, then the Cs, etc.
Among the horses listed are Massaoud (Mesaoud, of the Crabbet Stud), Johara Bint Helwa (Johara of the Crabbet Stud), Helwa, Gamila I, Farhan, Mahruss II, and Ghazala El Beida (Ghazala).
This book contains one black and white portraits of Abbas Pacha I and one black-and-white photo of 'Ali Pacha Cherif; both are mounted on unidentified Arabian horses.
